CROWN THINNING

Crown thinning is achieved by removing a portion of smaller branches usually in the outer crown to produce a uniformed density of foliage around an evenly spaced branch structure. Crown thinning is usually carried out on broad leaved species and allows more light to pass through a tree and reduces wind resistance.

CROWN REDUCTION

The reduction of height and or width of a tree’s crown. This is usually carried out to allow the tree to be suited better to its current location and to reduce the effects of shading and light loss. The goal is to leave a similar yet smaller outline of symmetry of the original shape of the tree.

CROWN LIFT

Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches from the canopy. Ideally, large main branches from the trunk should not be removed on mature trees and only secondary branches to reduce further long term problems. It is an effective method of increasing light transformation close to the tree or enable better access under the tree.

DEAD WOOD REMOVAL

The removal of dead wood from trees is usually carried out in gardens or areas where people are usually present to reduce the potential of injury from falling branches. In woodland, dead wood is usually left as it provides essential habitats for wildlife.

TREE FELLING

Tree felling is usually carried out by accurately controlling the direction of a trees path by cutting it from the floor. This can only be carried out in areas where obstacles are not an issue. This is usually carried out in large open spaces or in woodland areas.

CONTROLLED SECTIONAL DISMANTLING

This is where an arborist climbs the tree using rope and harness techniques to delicately dismantle the tree piece by piece avoiding all obstacles nearby. Branches can be dropped to the floor or can be carefully lowered to the floor using the latest rigging techniques and following all up to date guidelines.

TREE THINNING

By removing the weaker and overcrowded specimens of trees in young plantations it allows the stronger trees to flourish and have the best possible chance of reaching a healthy maturity. Plantations are usually overplanted to begin with to allow the plantation as a whole the greatest possible chance of success

WOODLAND MAINTENANCE

It is easy to overlook woodland maintenance; the future of our woodlands relies on effective management in order for the trees to thrive. A small amount of regular care can transform a woodlands quality and health enabling it to survive long into the future.

POLLARDING

Pollarding trees is usually best carried out on young trees to promote a desired growth in the future. Yearly or biennially maintenance is then usually required. Certain species react more favourably than others. Pollarding of mature trees is usually carried out as a last resort rather than dismantling the full tree.
